National Poetry Day

As you know, National Poetry Day 2014 was a big day for us at Blackpool libraries. Not only was the day jam packed with events, we also had a very special event in the evening.

Back in July of this year during Wordpool Festival, we announced our very first National Poetry Competition. All poems must centre on the theme of Light with the winning poem becoming an attraction in the world famous Blackpool Illuminations.
Last Thursday night, we invited all the competition entrants to the Central library for an evening of hot pot accompanied by an illuminations run and, of course, poetry.  During our illuminations run, we announced the winner of the first prize, Sarah Leavesley, and unveiled her winning poem, That Night, in lights!

Congratulations, Sarah!

You can see her winning poem throughout the 2014 Blackpool Illuminations opposite the Gynn Roundabout.
