Shakespeare September Twitter Book Club

Welcome to Shakespeare September!

2016 is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and we are marking the occasion with a special edition of our Twitter Book Club.

Sept TBC

This month’s #Bookpool pick is The Gap of Time by Jeanette Winterson, a contemporary re-imagining of Shakespeare’s penultimate play, The Winter’s Tale.

A stirring tale of jealousy, loss and redemption set in London after the 2008 financial crisis.

Leo Kaiser is a powerfully wealthy hedge fund manager. He wrongly suspects an affair between wife, Mimi and his childhood friend, Xeno. Leo is convinced that newborn daughter, Perdita, is not his biological child. Maddened by jealousy, Leo arranges for his daughter to be kidnapped and sent to America. Seventeen years later, we follow Perdita as she returns to London and attempts to discover where she came from.

The Gap of Time is part of the Hogarth Shakespeare project. Critically acclaimed and best-selling authors are re-telling Shakespeare’s works. Including luminaries such as Anne Tyler, Margaret Atwood, Jo Nesbo, Gillian Flynn, Howard Jacobson, Edward St Aubyn, and previous #bookpool pick Tracy Chevalier.

See you on Twitter, Thursday 22 September at 8pm. We can’t wait to have a good ol’ Shakespearean chat with you all.

Happy Reading!

Pssst! Earlier this year we took part in Shakespeare Selfie Day. Check out these awesome pics of staff and customers.
